City of Charleston Bike Racks

City of Charleston Bike Rack

The Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club received a $1,320.00 grant from the Sustainable Kanawha Valley Initiative (SKVI) in November of 2004 to put bike racks in the Village District of Downtown Charleston (Capitol and Summers Street). The club donated $250.00 for shipping costs. Ten racks were purchased in all and they were installed by the city at a cost of $3,750.00.

These racks are inverted ā€œUā€ shaped and hold one or two bike easily. They are extremely handy since parking options are limited in this area. The local merchants are glad to see the city promoting an alternative transportation that will help bring more folks to this business district.

Due to the success of this project the SKVI awarded a $1635.00 grant for the 2006 funding cycle. Plans are to place 11 more racks in the downtown area.

A special thanks to SKVI and the city of Charleston, they saw a need and gladly worked with the club to expand the options for parking in Charleston.
